Day 1 - DEPART -
Depart US via best connections for our overnight flight with dinner arriving the next day. We will be served complimentary beverages, in-flight movies, dinner and breakfast aloft.
Wednesday, August 10
Day 2 - LISBON/FATIMA
We arrive Lisbon and travel north to Fatima where the balance of the day is devoted to visiting the Basilica and Shrine of Our Lady of Fatima and, time permitting, the birthplaces of Francisco, Jacinta and Lucia to whom the Virgin appeared for the first time on May 13th, 1917. In the evening, we join the Rosary and candlelight procession. Dinner and overnight at our hotel.
Thursday, August 11
Day 3 - FATIMA/VALLADOLID
This morning, following Mass at the Shrine, we depart Fatima. We travel throughout the Spanish countryside and arrive in the thriving city of Valladolid for dinner and overnight.
Friday, August 12
Day 4 – VALLADOLID/BURGOS/LOURDES
This morning, we depart for ancient Burgos, once the capital of Spain and the home of the famous El Cid. On arrival we visit and celebrate Mass at the beautiful Gothic Cathedral, the third largest in Spain after Seville and Toledo. Following our visit we continue northeastward along the Basque coast and cross the border into France. In late afternoon, we arrive in Lourdes for dinner before joining the Torch light Pilgrim's Procession. Overnight at our hotel.
Saturday, August 13
Day 5 - LOURDES
Following Mass and a morning orientation visit to the Shrine of Lourdes, we experience a walking tour of Lourdes, visiting Boly Mill, where St. Bernadette was born and the Cachot, formerly used as a jail, where she lived during the apparitions, and the parish church. This afternoon is free for private devotions, Eucharistic Procession, the Blessing of the Sick or the legendary, healing waters of the miraculous Lourdes spring. Following dinner at the hotel, we may once again participate in this evening's candlelight procession.
Sunday, August 14
Day 6 - LOURDES - / ZARAGOZA
This morning we depart Lourdes and traverse the Pyrenees southward entering northern Spain. We travel eastward to Zaragoza, the capital of Aragon. On arrival, we visit the city which was founded by the Romans. The number one Marian shrine of Spain, the Pilar Basilica commemorates apparitions of Our Lady the Pillar to St. James in 40 AD, and if possible we celebrate Mass. Dinner and overnight at our hotel.
Monday, August 15
FEAST OF THE ASSUMPTION
Day 7 – ZARAGOZA/MADRID
This morning we leave the city and traveling south we reach Madrid. This afternoon, we attend World Youth Day Opening ceremonies at ________. Return to our hotel for overnight. Meals during WYD are provided by the WYD Committee
