Trip Details

Today we depart via coach to Toronto for our overnight flight to Tel Aviv. We enjoy in-flight movies, dinner and breakfast aloft.
We arrive at Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv this morning and board our motor coach for the short ride to Jaffa, the city of Jonah, where Peter had his rooftop experience. We ride through the quaintly restored area. We celebrate Mass at the Church of Peter. We transfer to our hotel in Tel Aviv for dinner and overnight.
This morning, we visit Mt. Tabor, the site of the Transfiguration, where we celebrate Mass. We drive to Nazareth to visit Joseph’s house and the Church of the Annunciation, where the Word became Flesh! On to the village of Cana, the site of Jesus’ first miracle, where our married couples will renew their wedding vows. We end the day at the river of Jordan where we renew our Baptismal vows. Dinner and overnight at our hotel in Tiberias.
We cross the Sea of Galilee by boat and view the surrounding mountains and sites of Jesus’ bountiful ministry. We celebrate Mass on the boat. On the opposite side, we view the first century boat from Jesus’ time, known as the “Jesus Boat.” On to visit Capernaum, where we see the remains of the village synagogue and the new church built atop St. Peter’s house. Next, we drive to Tabgha, where we visit: The Mount of Beatitudes; The Chapel of the Primacy, where tradition has it Jesus appeared to his disciples the third time and confirmed the spiritual Primacy of the Apostle Peter; and the Church of the Multiplication of Loaves and Fishes. We enjoy dinner at The Decks on the Sea of Galilee this evening. Overnight at our hotel.
Today we drive south through the Jordan Valley. We make our thrilling entry to Jerusalem. On to Bethlehem (we stop for shopping at The Arches.) We visit The House of Bread and the Church of the Nativity, which commemorates the birth of Christ. We visit the Manger, the Crusader's Cloister and St. Catherine’s Church. We celebrate the Christmas Mass in Shepherd’s Field. Dinner and overnight at our hotel in Jerusalem.
This morning we visit the place of the Ascension, the Garden of Gethsemane, and the Church of All Nations. We walk on to the Church of the Pater Noster and view the beautiful City of Jerusalem from the Mount of Olives. We continue to walk down the hill to Dominus Flevit Chapel, where Jesus wept over Jerusalem. Following lunch, we proceed to Mount Zion, stopping at St. Peter in Gallicantu (The Cock Crows), where Jesus was held in the house of the High Priest Caiaphas and where we celebrate Mass. We pray in the Church of Dormition and visit the Upper Room. We venture a short distance from Jerusalem to Jericho to shop for Hebron glassware. Return to the hotel for dinner and overnight.
After Mass this morning in the beautiful Franciscan Church of the Cenacle we travel through the desert wilderness of Judea to ascend Masada by cable car. This was the mountaintop fortress of King Herod where from 70-73 AD the Jewish defenders made the last stand of the Jewish revolt against Rome. On the way to Qumran we stop for shopping time at the Ahava factory. We continue to tour the excavation at Qumran, the home of the Essenes connected with John the Baptist and the Dead Sea Scrolls. Finally, we stop at Dead Sea beach where those wishing can experience a swim in the clear yet salty waters of the Dead Sea, the lowest place on earth.
This morning, we prayerfully walk the Stations of The Cross along the Via Dolorosa concluding at the Church of the Holy Sepulcher, where we celebrate Mass. We visit the Church of St. Ann (Mary’s mother) and the Pool of Bethesda, Lithostrotos, the Ecce Homo Arch built by the Romans in A.D. 70 and the Convent of Zion. After free time for shopping and lunch in the Christian Quarter, we tour the Jewish Quarter, making our way to the Western (Wailing) Wall and if possible (if security allows visitors), we go to the Temple Mount for an exterior view of the Dome of the Rock. Dinner and overnight at our hotel.
We visit the Shrine of the Book to view the Dead Sea Scrolls, then on the Yad Vashem (the Holocaust Museum.) We continue to Ein Karem and visit the Church of the Visitation where Mary visited her cousin Elizabeth to utter the words of the Magnificat; on to the Church of John the Baptist. In the courtyard we find plaques containing the Canticle of Zechariah. We travel to Abu Ghosh where Jesus appeared to his disciples on the road on the first Easter Sunday. We celebrate Mass at the Benedictine monastery named St. Mary of the Resurrection Abbey. We return to our hotel for dinner and overnight.
This morning we depart Tel Aviv and later arrive in the U.S. with unforgettable memories to cherish always knowing we have walked in the footsteps of Jesus and the early Christians bring new meaning to our Scripture reading and celebration of Mass.
