Trip Details

Today, we depart Chicago to connect with our transatlantic overnight flight to Munich aboard a wide-bodied jet.
This morning, we arrive in Munich where we are met and enjoy a delightful orientation tour of the city. Later, we check into our hotel for dinner and overnight and the balance of the day is at leisure.
This morning following Mass in a local parish, we meet our local guide and begin our tour through the exciting Bavarian capital. Enjoy a visit to the Nymphenburg Palace, afterwards pass the Olympic village and stadium, along the Leopoldstrasse with the Triumphal Arch and Hall of Generals, Schwabing Artist’s Colony, the University and the English Gardens. We have the opportunity to explore the culinary delights of Munich, as dinner is on our own. Overnight at our hotel.
This morning we celebrate Mass before departing for our scenic drive on our way to Oberammergau. We arrive in the famous Passion Play village where we transfer to our accommodations. Following lunch on our own we can visit the Oberammergau Museum or to simply walk among the many craft shops. We then head off to the Theatre. In the middle of the Thirty Years War, after months of suffering and dying as a result of the plague, the people of Oberammergau vowed to perform "The play of the passion, death and rising of our Lord Jesus Christ" every ten years. At Whitsun 1634 they kept their promise for the first time, on a stage which they had set up in the cemetery, over the graves of those who had died of the plague. In 2020 Oberammergau will, for the 42nd time, be putting on the play that has been carried on over the centuries in a unique continuity. The play shows the story of Christ's Passion, beginning with the entry into Jerusalem and ending with the resurrection. The structure of the play is living pictures from the Old Testament and acted scenes from the New Testament. The Play employs a large choir and orchestra. Our performance runs 2:30 to 5:00 PM and after a 3-hour dinner break it concludes 8:00 to 10:30 PM. After our included dinner we return to view the conclusion of the play. Overnight at our accommodations.
This morning we visit the famous Neuschwanstein Castle built by Mad King Ludwig. We continue to Salzburg the ancient seat of the Archbishop and the location for the Sound of Music. We begin with Mass at the Cathedral. We see the colorful old section with narrow streets, Residenz Fountain and Tower, and the Geburtshaus, Mozart's birthplace. We enjoy the unusual architecture, which lends much to the character and charm of the city. Conclude in our hotel for dinner and overnight.
Today, we depart Salzburg and drive north to Prague. On arrival, we begin our tour at Castle Hill and visit St. Vitus Cathedral, Wladislav Hall and Golden Lane. We visit the famous Infant Jesus of Prague at the Church of Our Lady of Victory, where we celebrate Mass. Our afternoon tour of Prague includes the Old Town with Astronomical clock, Jewish Quarter and Charles Bridge. Continue to our hotel for dinner and overnight.
This morning, following Mass in Prague, we depart and travel southwest, passing through towns which have still retained much of a medieval atmosphere. Cross the border into Austria and by way of the Danube valley, arrive this afternoon in Vienna for dinner and overnight.
This morning, following Mass at a parish church near our hotel we will drive to the Hofburg, and see the17th century Capuchin Church containing the Imperial Vaults. We will also visit the Schönbrunn Castle with its vast French Park. This afternoon, we will have an excursion to the historic Vienna Woods, driving past Liechtenstein Castle with a visit to the ancient Heiligenkreuz Cistercian Abbey and pass by Mayerling, the former Imperial Hunting Lodge. On our return to Vienna for dinner and overnight, we will pass the famous Spa of Baden. We enjoy a typical Heuigen Dinner tonight. Remainder of evening free to perhaps enjoy a concert (Not included in price.)
This morning, we transfer to the airport for our return flight home arriving later today with memories to last for a lifetime!
