Trip Details

Today we depart our home cities and travel to Munich aboard a wide-bodied jet. We enjoy in-flight movies, dinner and breakfast aloft.
This morning we arrive in Munich. On arrival our bus tour includes the University, St. Paul's Church, German Museum, the Obelisk, Theatinir Church, Feldherrnhalle, English Gardens, Schwabing Artists’ Colony, Buergerbrau Kellar, and a visit to Nymphenburg Palace. We celebrate Mass at the 'Frauenkirche', the Cathedral of Munich. Dinner and overnight at the hotel in Munich.
This morning we start our day with a scenic drive to the Monastery in Ettal for Mass. The peaks of the majestic alpine world of the Ammergau Alps frame the picture-perfect abbey with its magnificent basilica church. We continue to Oberammergau for lunch (on your own), and a short visit of the village. We continue our scenic drive to visit the famous Neuschwanstein Castle which was built by Mad King Ludwig. We conclude our day with dinner and overnight at our hotel in Fussen.
This morning we start our day with an early Mass in Fussen and then a scenic drive to Oberammergau and attendance of the Passion Play. Following lunch on our own, we can visit the Oberammergau Museum or simply walk among the many craft shops. We then gather at the theatre for our 2:30 PM performance. In the middle of the Thirty Years War, after months of suffering and dying as a result of the plague, the people of Oberammergau vowed to perform "The play of the passion, death and rising of our Lord Jesus Christ" every ten years. At Whitsun 1634 they kept their promise for the first time, on a stage which they had set up in the cemetery, over the graves of those who had died of the plague. In 2022 Oberammergau will, for the 42nd time, be putting on the play that has been carried on over the centuries in a unique continuity. The play shows the story of Christ's Passion, beginning with the entry into Jerusalem and ending with the resurrection. The structure of the play is living pictures from the Old Testament and acted scenes from the New Testament. The Play employs a large choir and orchestra. Our performance runs 2:30 to 5:00 PM and after a 3-hour dinner break it concludes 8:00 to 10:30 PM. After our included dinner we return to view the conclusion of the play. Overnight at our Oberammergau hotel accommodations.
Early this morning, we celebrate Mass at the local Oberammergau parish church and depart Oberammergau for the Munich airport and our flight to Rome. In Rome we meet our bus driver and take a short bus drive to Assisi. We arrive at the hilltop village of Assisi, the home of Saint Francis. In the lower town, we drive by the Basilica of St. Mary of the Angels and continue to the upper village for dinner and overnight at our hotel. This evening we will be able to walk around and see this beautiful village for the first time.
This morning, we begin at the Basilica of St. Francesco with Mass. After our visit of the Basilica and the tomb of St. Francis, we begin our walking tour of the village. Included, is a visit to the Church of St. Clare to view the crucifix that spoke to St. Francis. We pass by the famous Temple of Minerva in the Piazza del Commune. This afternoon, we can enjoy this picturesque hillside village on our own. Dinner and overnight at our hotel.
Feast Day of St Francis. This morning our first stop is in the lower town of Assisi for a visit to the Basilica of St. Mary of the Angels and the Portiuncula, Francis' Church of the Little Portion. After celebrating Mass and the Feast Day of St Francis, we depart beautiful Assisi and travel south to Rome. After check-in at our hotel, there will be free time this evening to see Rome under the lights. Dinner and overnight at our hotel.
This morning we make our way to St. Peter's for the Audience of Pope Francis if he is in residence. This afternoon we visit St. Paul Outside the Walls. Rome's second in size only to St. Peters, it is the first of our major Basilicas and the tomb of the Apostle Paul. Finally, we make our way to St. Mary Major for Mass. This is the first church dedicated to the Blessed Mother, first built in the fifth century following the Council of Ephesus. We continue with a walking tour including the Roman Forum passing the Arch of Constantine, the Coliseum, and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Return to our hotel for dinner and overnight.
This morning, we begin our day with Mass beneath St. Peter’s. We then continue to the Vatican Museum where we see the treasures of the Vatican Museum. We marvel at Michelangelo's frescoes in the Sistine Chapel and the wonders of St. Peter’s. We have free time this afternoon to explore St Peter’s Basilica in more detail, perhaps shopping, or a lovely lunch (on your own) in a local restaurant. You can choose to take the bus back to the hotel or stay in the Vatican area and be on your own to get back to the hotel. We return to our hotel for dinner and overnight.
This morning we start our day at the Church of St. Peter in Chains to view Michelangelo's celebrated sculpture, the "Moses." Next, we visit the Basilica of St. John Lateran, the Cathedral of Rome for Mass. First built in the fourth century, the Basilica was the site of five ecumenical councils between the 12th and 16th centuries. The Popes resided in the Palace from the time of Constantine until 1304 when they moved to Avignon. We then go to the Holy Stairs (Scala Sancta). These are the stairs St Helena brought from Jerusalem from the Fortress of Antonia where Jesus was condemned by Pilot. Our next stop is the Basilica of the Holy Cross in Jerusalem. The nails of the cross and the crown of thorns are on display here. Lunch is on your own. There is free time for the remainder of the day. This evening we gather at the hotel and take the bus to the Trevi Fountain District for our farewell dinner (provided) and a chance to throw a coin in the famous Trevi Fountain. We return back to the hotel for overnight.
This morning, we board our flight to home arriving later today with memories to last for a lifetime!
