We depart our home airport for our overnight flight to Paris, arriving the next day. We enjoy in-flight movies, dinner, and breakfast aloft.
We arrive in Paris and transfer to our flight to Lisbon Airport, where we are met by our Tour Manager and given a short orientation tour of Lisbon before the coach bus ride to Fatima. If time permits, we celebrate Mass at the Church of the famous Eucharistic Miracle at Santarem. We stop for lunch on our own on our way to Fatima. Upon arrival, the remainder of the day at leisure before we enjoy our “welcome” dinner and overnight at our hotel. In the evening, we join the nightly International Rosary Procession.
This full day is devoted to visiting the Basilica and Shrine of Our Lady of Fatima and nearby hamlets of Aljustrel and Valinhos. We join the English language concelebrated Mass at the Chapel of Apparitions. We break for lunch on our own before visiting the birthplaces of Francisco, Jacinta and Lucia, the Loca de Anjo and the Holy Way. Dinner and overnight at our hotel. In the evening, we once again join the nightly International Rosary Procession.
Today, we depart Fatima, passing by the ancient capital and university city of Coimbra, where Lucia, the last Fatima visionary lived as a cloistered nun. We continue northwards into Spain and on to Santiago de Compostela, one of the most famous shrines in the western world. This is the site of the ancient pilgrimage to the Shrine of St. James. Tradition holds that the Apostle James was cast ashore here, preaching for seven years and being responsible for the conversion of Spain before his return to the Holy Land. The Cathedral of 11th to 13th century with all its splendor, and the portico are masterworks of Romanesque art. On arrival this afternoon, we enjoy a break for lunch on our own before visiting the Cathedral and the Old City. Dinner and overnight at our hotel.
Following our walk to early morning Mass at the Cathedral of Santiago, we return to our hotel for breakfast and then travel east to Santander along one of the many “Routes of St. James.” While this is our longest coach bus day, the wonderful scenery of mountains and seashore awe us as our roads hug the northern Spanish seacoast. Lunch on our own is taken along our route. Dinner and overnight in Santander.
This morning, following Mass in a local parish church, we continue eastward along the Basque coast via San Sebastian and cross the border into France. Lunch on our own is taken along our route. We arrive in Lourdes in time for dinner and overnight at our hotel. In the evening, we join the Rosary and nightly Torchlight Marian Procession.
This day is spent in devotion to Our Lady of Lourdes. We celebrate Mass at the Grotto with a morning orientation visit to the Shrine and a walking tour of Lourdes, visiting Boly Mill, where St. Bernadette was born, the Cachot, formerly used as a jail, where she lived during the apparitions, and the parish church. This afternoon, following a break for lunch on our own, we enjoy free time for private devotions, Eucharistic Procession, the Blessing of the Sick or the legendary, healing waters of the miraculous Lourdes spring. Dinner and overnight at our hotel. In the evening, we once again join the Rosary and the nightly Torchlight Marian Procession.
Following Mass at the Shrine, we depart Lourdes for our journey to Avignon, enjoying lunch on our own before entering Avignon. Once in Avignon, we visit the Palais des Papes, the impressive stone fortress that housed the “second papacy” during the schism with Rome. Following our visit there, we stop at the Avignon Cathedral before dinner and overnight at our hotel.
This morning, we depart Avignon for our journey to Ars-sur-Formans, home of the shrine of St. John Vianney. Known as the Patron Saint of Parish Priests, he was known by his holiness, his devotion to the Blessed Mother, and his supernatural gifts of the Spirit, which he used to wage physical war with Satan. Even while he was still living, Ars was a pilgrimage site and drew over 20,000 people each year, some, just to have him hear their confession. He was known to spend 12-15 hours per day hearing confessions! We enjoy lunch on our own during the day and visit his shrine, which contains his barely corrupt body. There we enjoy Mass in one of the chapel areas before proceeding to Paray le Monial, where we conclude our day at our hotel for dinner and overnight.
Today, we celebrate Mass at the Chapel of St. Marguerite. This is the site of the apparitions of Our Lord to St. Margaret Mary Alacoque in 1673. It was here that she received the 12 promises to increase the devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. We enjoy lunch on our own and some free time before we depart and travel north to Nevers. St. Bernadette of Lourdes spent the last 13 years of her life here, and we view her barely corrupt body in the Convent of St. Gildard. We conclude our day as we journey to Paris, arriving in time for dinner and overnight at our hotel.
This morning, following Mass at the Miraculous Medal Shrine of St. Catherine Laboure, we tour the sites of Paris, including a visit to the most enduring symbol of the French capital, the Notre Dame Cathedral on the Ile de la Cité. While here, we also make a stop at the Holy Chapel, believed to hold the Holy Relics of the nail of the Cross and pieces of wood from the Cross of Calvary. As part of our tour, we pass by the Arc de Triomphe, Eiffel Tower and travel down the famous Champs-Elysees. This evening, we have the opportunity to enjoy the culinary delights of Paris as our “farewell” dinner will be on our own. Overnight at our hotel.
Today we transfer to the airport for our flight home with unforgettable memories to cherish always and a renewed spirit.
