Trip Details

Today, we depart JFK airport to connect with our overnight flight to Rome aboard a wide-bodied jet. We enjoy in-flight movies, dinner, and breakfast while aloft.
This morning, we arrive in Rome where we are met by our Unitours Tour Manager as we board our motorcoach for our ride to Rome city center. Our first visit is to the Basilica of St. Mary Major, where we pass through the Holy Doors of the Basilica and celebrate Mass at the altar which houses the Crib our Lord was placed in at his Nativity, miraculously discovered by St. Helena in the Fourth Century. At this altar, it is a privilege to offer the Mass of Christmas on nearly any day of the year! We enjoy some free time for lunch on our own. In the afternoon, we enter St. Peter’s through the Holy Doors and tour the Basilica followed by some free time, during which those who wish may visit the Church of San Silvestro in Capite, which houses the head of St. John the Baptist. We check in to our hotel in Rome area and celebrate our “welcome” dinner and overnight.
Today, we visit Tre Fontane Abbey and its three Churches on the outskirts of Rome, where St. Paul was martyred, where the relics of Ss. Anastasius and Vincent are kept. It is piously believed that the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared in 1947 to Bruno Cornacchiola, and converted him, ending his plot to assassinate Pope Pius XII. We depart for the famous Benedictine Monastery at Monte Cassino, where Ss. Benedict and Scholastica are buried, where we celebrate Mass. We stop for lunch on our own. After lunch, we continue to Naples. We arrive in the city and check-in at our hotel. Some time at our leisure, then dinner and overnight at our hotel.
Following early breakfast at the hotel, we proceed to the Carmelite Basilica which houses the miraculous image of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel known as “La Bruna”, believed to have been painted by St. Luke, and brought from the Holy Land when the Carmelites were expelled by the Moslems in the 13th Century. We celebrate Mass at the Carmelite Basilica. After Mass, we enjoy a brief visit of the famous ruins of Pompeii, about which St. Therese remarked, “The traces [Mount Vesuvius] has left upon the ruins of Pompeii are frightening and are a manifestation of God’s power: ‘He looks at the earth and it trembles; he touches the mountains, and they are reduced to smoke.’” We then continue to New Pompeii, where we visit the Shrine of Our Lady of the Rosary. We return to Naples for dinner and overnight at our hotel.
Today, we depart Naples and visit the Shrine of St. Philomena, where her body lies, in Mugnano del Cardinale, we celebrate Mass while there. We break for lunch on our own. We continue our day to San Giovanni Rotondo, where we visit the Sanctuary of San Giovanni Rotondo, check-in, dinner and overnight at our hotel.
This morning, we celebrate Mass in San Giovanni Rotondo. After mass, we depart for Lanciano. Stop along the way for lunch on our own. We drive north to Lanciano, the Church which houses the famous Eucharistic Miracle from the 8th century, and one of the few to date which has been the subject of a peer-reviewed, scientific journal article, which reports that what is present appears to be fresh, human cardiac tissue. We continue to Montesilvano for dinner and overnight at our hotel.
Today, following an early breakfast we depart for Loreto, to the site of the “Holy House”, where the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God, was born; where she was saluted by the Angel, and where the eternal Word of God was made Flesh. Angels conveyed this house from the Holy Land to Italy in 1291. We celebrate Mass at the Basilica before we proceed to Bologna, stopping along the way for lunch on our own. We arrive in Bologna where we view the seated, barely corrupt body of St. Catherine of Bologna at her monastery. We continue to our hotel, check-in and enjoy dinner and overnight.
After an early breakfast, we head to Florence, where we celebrate Mass at the Carmelite Monastery where the barely corrupt body of St. Mary Magdeline de Pazzi lies, and we visit the Discalced Carmelite Monastery which houses the barely corrupt remains of St. Teresa Margaret Redi. We continue to Siena with a stop along the way for lunch on our own. We arrive in Siena and visit the relics of St Catherine of Siena and the Eucharistic Miracle of Siena. Dinner and overnight at our hotel.
This morning, following an early breakfast, we drive to the Sanctuary of St. Margaret of Cortona, where her barely corrupt body lies, and where we celebrate Mass. We enjoy free time for lunch on our own in Cortona. After Lunch we drive to Assisi, the home of St. Francis. Our first stop there will be in the lower town for a visit to the Basilica of St. Mary of the Angels, which houses the Portiuncula, Francis’ Church of the Little Portion. We continue to our hotel, for dinner and overnight.
Today we visit the Basilicas of Saint Francis & Saint Clare, as well as the San Damiano Convent, where the crucifix spoke to St. Francis, and where St. Clare died. We then depart Assisi for Cascia, stopping along the way for lunch on our own. In Cascia we celebrate Mass at the Shrine of Saint Rita of Cascia. Following mass, we continue to Rome airport area and check in at our hotel. Tonight, we enjoy our “farewell” dinner. Overnight at our hotel.
This morning, we transfer to the airport for our flight to the U.S. arriving the same day with memories off a lifetime!
