Today, we depart for our overnight flight to Madrid/Porto aboard a wide-bodied jet. We enjoy in-flight movies, dinner & breakfast while aloft.
This morning, we arrive in Porto and are greeted by our Unitours Tour Manager as we transfer to our motorcoach for our drive to Biaona (or Bayona), the place where we begin our journey on the “Camino” following the ancient Portuguese Way of St. James, referred to locally as the “Coastal Route”. Upon arrival and check-in at our hotel, we have time to prepare for the walking pilgrimage and enjoy the delightful town of Biaona. If time permits, we visit the Santa Maria de Tui Cathedral, a 13th-century church of enormous proportions and built and remodeled over the centuries, allowing it to represent Romanesque, Gothic, and Baroque architectural elements! We celebrate our first pilgrims Mass while there. We enjoy our “welcome” dinner and overnight at our hotel.
Today, we walk along our route, concluding at our hotel for dinner and overnight. Our route follows the beaches of Nigran, which, pending weather conditions, gives us a great view of the islands that dot this coastline. We will have a prayer service before dinner at a local church or in a room provided by the hotel. Overnight at our hotel.
This morning, we walk along our route, concluding at our hotel for dinner and overnight. This route is shorter, so there is plenty of time to dip your feet in the ocean. We will have a prayer service before dinner at a local church or in a room provided by the hotel. Overnight at our hotel.
Today, we walk along our route, concluding at our hotel for dinner and overnight. We are back on the regular route of the Portuguese Way for the remainder of our Camino. We will have a prayer service before dinner at a local church or in a room provided by the hotel. Overnight at our hotel.
This morning, we walk along our route, concluding at our hotel for dinner and overnight. We travel through some nive National Park areas with the Barosa River and it’s many waterfalls. We conclude in this famous spa town , which is known locally for it’s thermal springs. We will have a prayer service before dinner at a local church or in a room provided by the hotel. Overnight at our hotel.
Today, we walk along our route, concluding at our hotel for dinner and overnight. Padron is known as the first town spotted by St. James relic custodians as they neared Santiago. We will have a prayer service before dinner at a local church or in a room provided by the hotel. Overnight at our hotel.
This morning, we get an early morning start as we walk along our route, which will start out very rural but will change to an urban landscape as we near our beloved Santiago. At the conclusion of our day, we arrive at the Pilgrim Office to get our Camino Passport certified. We conclude at our hotel for dinner and overnight. We celebrate Mass before dinner at a local church or in a room provided by the hotel.
Today, we enjoy an early morning Mass at the 11th-century Cathedral of Santiago, a masterwork of Romanesque art, followed by breakfast at our hotel. The world-famous Shrine of St. James (“Santiago” in Spanish). The Apostle James preached here for seven years before returning to the Holy Land, where he was martyred (beheaded) in 44A.D. The remainder of our relaxing day includes a bus trip to the lovely coastal towns of Muxia, Finisterre, and Muros. We enjoy lunch on our own before we return to Santiago for our “farewell” dinner at a local restaurant and overnight at our hotel.
This morning, we transfer to the Porto airport for our return flight to US. We arrive later that day, with memories of a lifetime, and a sense of internal spirituality few possess.
