Egypt

Day 1 – JERUSALEM/CAIRO  – This morning, we transfer to the airport in Tel Aviv, where we board our short flight to Cairo, Egypt.  We are met by our Tour representative before passport control, where he manages the entry process (stamping visa, passport control and luggage collection).  Depending on arrival time, we will stop for lunch on our own before we begin our visit to the Holy Family Church, believed to the home of the Holy Family during their Egyptian exile.  Afterwards, we continue to our hotel for dinner and overnight with the balance of the day is at leisure.

Day 2 - CAIRO –  Today, we drive to Giza, where at the end of the Pyramids Road, the greatest of the wonders of the world dominate the horizon.  We drive around the three Pyramids of Cheops, Chephren and Mydkerinus, and then enter inside the Pyramid of Cheops, the largest of all three, climbing all the way up to the burial chamber.  We then continue to the Sphinx, the largest single block structure of all time, where we will visit the funerary Valley Temple to which the Sphinx stands guardian. We will stop along the way for lunch on our own. We continue with a visit to the famous Cairo Museum with its treasures of unearthed riches from Pharaonic days. The King Tut collection is possibly the most complete display of an Egyptian Tomb ever assembled. Later, we visit the Citadel, the Mosque, and the El Kalili Bazaar. We return to our hotel for dinner and overnight.

Day 3 - CAIRO/MT. SINAI -  This morning, we make our way into the Sahara, crossing the Suez Canal on route to St. Catherine’s at the foot of Mt. Sinai. We will be provided free time for lunch on our own and shopping before we continue to our hotel for dinner and overnight.

Day 4 - MT. SINAI/JERUSALEM –  Today, very early this morning the hardy can make their sunrise hike to the summit of Mt. Sinai, where Moses met the Lord in the burning bush.  Those who journey will celebrate an outdoor Mass at the summit.  On our return to the base, we enjoy breakfast at our hotel and then make our journey northwards to Israel. We continue to Jaffa, the city of Jonah, where Peter had his rooftop experience, where we ride through the quaintly restored area.  Afterwards we celebrate our “farewell dinner” nearby before we head to Ben Gurion Airport for our overnight flight home.

Day 14 - USA -  We arrive home today with unforgettable memories to cherish always.  Knowing we have walked in the footsteps of Jesus and the early Christians, bringing new meaning to our Scripture reading and celebration of Mass.
